A Single Choice Is Grass-Fed Beef Farms

By Katrina Wheeler

Cows that are grass fed have about 100 fewer calories per 6 ounces then grain fed cows. Many people do not believe that grass-fed beef farms make a difference in the production of meat and that what the cows eat does not matter. One thing they do not understand is that cows who are fed grass verses grain have less fat in the meat.

ALA, EPA, and DHA are the three omega fatty acids. Their proper names are alpha-linolenic acid, eicosapentaenoic acid, and docosahexaenoic acid. EPA and DHA come from marine oils, while ALA comes from plants. The grass fed cows have about 2-6 times more omega-3 fatty acids than that of normal grain fed cows. These are super important as they have many great health benefits and keep will help to keep your metabolism regular.

Adding this meat to your diet can benefit your health. It is proven in various studies that since this beef has higher levels of omega-3 fatty acids it can help lower your risk of cancer. It is also shown that people who are going through chemotherapy do better if they have higher levels of these acids.

When cows come from grass fed farms they are stronger and healthier. The good thing about this is that it allows them to pass their good health onto the humans that consume them. Most of these farms are locally owned and by families. This helps determine that the animals are well taken care of and generally really healthy.

These farms also help support local producers. It can help support local economies and give people in the community jobs. This means that more money will be held locally, which will help build communities. Also knowing that the meat is produced locally can help us ensure it was handled well. Most grass-fed farms sell the meat from their property, which means it has less travel time before it hits your plate.

Farms like this are also very sustainable. This is because they do not need to grow grains to feed their cows, the food the cows eat is already on the property. Also since the cows are eating the extra grass, this is keeping it trim, which means no mowers are needed. This keeps smoke fumes out of the environment.

Since less manure is produced because these places are organic, this helps keep the water supply clean. The manure will get into the ground soil which hurts the water supply. It can also cause acid rain, which will ruin that brand new paint job on your car. The manure can also get into rivers and lakes, this will hurt or kill the fish that live in them. It mainly kills their food supply, because it eats their food in order to keep growing.

Most meat from grass-fed beef farms is sold from the farmers' land which helps keep the money in the local area. This creates local jobs, which keep communities growing. These places also have a positive impact on the environment as well as the health of the people. These farms can do nothing but set the planet up for a better future.
