Family Recipe BBQ Sauce For Sale

By Angel Dudley

Most people love a great steak, pork chop or smoky tasting hamburger cooked on the grill. While the distinct taste of grilled meat is a delicacy to most, the added benefit of barbecue sauce can give a bland meal zest and excellence. A variety of BBQ sauce for sale, from spicy to sweet, can be purchased at local stores, but many people also choose to make their own special sauces, adding the perfect touch to the meal.

For those that have ever been told they should bottle their secret recipe and sell it that may be closer to reality than first thought. Most states have guidelines in place for those that want to make food and sell it. There are also many great ways to market new sauces and foods at state festivals, fairs, flea markets and barbecue sauce competitions.

Doing some initial investigation into what state regulations exist, any business licenses, and rules of distribution will assist individuals who plan to launch this type of business. Most require at least a business license. Also investigate rules of selling online, and any special packaging. Comply with all rules and regulations, including establishing a separate facility than the home for making products.

Just because the product is made elsewhere doesn't mean incurring heavy start-up costs. It's usually possible to rent space from an organization that already has ovens and cooking equipment. An organization such as a church, or other non-profit will normally rent out space when they aren't using it. This will help you launch your business without having to invest in a building and supplies before profits have been realized.

Once success is achieved and the orders begin coming in on a regular basis then its best to rent a building and make the investment of commercial ovens and stoves. Small business loans exist for start up businesses in most states. Until then, using a commercial building such as a church is an acceptable way to meet state requirements.

It's also good to consider how the product will be bottled and labeled for sales. This should also comply with any state regulations. Think about if it will be offered in an individual bottle, or if it will be packaged as part of a barbecue kit? Once product is ready think about how to launch and market the new product.

Investigate ways to market locally and regionally. Some ideas might include contests and competitions, fairs, markets, or festivals. It might include renting space for barbecue demonstrations for a taste of the sauce on burgers or steaks. It might also include the Internet. No matter how the marketing campaign is launched remember that the objective is to increase selling and consumer potential.

One of the other ways to market product is by making an appointment with regional department store and grocery store managers who make decisions regarding merchandise and purchasing for stores. This may mean traveling to a regional office, or main grocery store in another city or state to talk to the purchasing manager. Do as much research as possible before the meeting. Know the region and the type of products the store or region carries. Remember competition is fierce for store space. The sales manager may want to know what makes this BBQ sauce for sale better than a similar product the stores is already carrying.
