Action Protagonists & Usefulness of a Food Lovers Diet

By Rob Sutter

When we find ourselves binge eating, sometimes there's that concern of weight gain. After all, the more that we put into our bodies, the more we're commonly going to gain in terms of pounds, right? This is the case for a good number of people but that law of realism seems entirely lost on heroes we see in action thrillers, both in TV and film, where a food lovers diet may be. Despite the fact that they don't eat as well, at times, they wind up looking the same and aren't worse for wear.

A food lovers diet typically contains a good amount of healthful food and one can eat as much as they'd like during their time taking up said diet. You want to make sure that you attain all of the nutrients that your body can use, which is why produce and lean protein is so prevalent. I believe it also goes without saying that low cholesterol and fat are both important points to look at here as well. With companies like Quorn, a successful outing with this diet is almost a promise.

Action heroes should be able to do well if they keep up a good diet, right? The problem is that going about such acts as fight and obstacle traversing involves a good amount of energy. Typically, you'd be able to attain said energy from the food that you eat, which means that it's common for people to take on better diets. In the case of these people featured heavily on television and film, I don't believe that the idea of healthy food is ever really showcased well.

Maybe you'll see these heroes go through these episodes or films without ever consuming anything with nutritional value to it. This is a problem, as you could very well imagine, since how are they possibly going to combat one villain after another? Maybe these people simply have better stances of power to the name? It's definitely a reason to consider but, in my mind, it shows that there isn't a whole lot of realism and offers less of a reason for me to become invested.

At least you had somewhat realistic films like "Lord of the Rings," where one of the biggest concerns of Sam was making sure that there was enough for him and Frodo to make it to Mount Doom and back to the Shire. It's clear that many films interpret strength differently, depending on the sympathy you want to feel for these characters. If you look at someone like the Terminator, chances are that that you're not going to connect to him on a personal level. You simply want to see him fight and prove his dominance.
